Reflection on sons births

Lucas Alexander James, born on Thursday, September 6th, 2007. He was 13 days early, and I knew he was a boy, even if my pregnancy with him was a surprise. He was born at 6 pounds 7 ounces. He change my outlook on life, and I so happy because I knew that I wanted to be a mommy.

I ended up going in for an induction Thursday, after my appointment the night before. It wasn't scheduled, and I had to have IV because of my GBS (Group B Strep). The IV was the worst part of my whole labour with him. It didn't lace three times, and they finally went to my hand after that. They had me on pitocin, and broke my water at 4:30 pm. I was given some medication to help me through the pain, it didn't work. By 5:30 pm I was ready to push, and they told me to wait for the second dose of anti-botics, about five minutes later, I was allowed to push. At 6:30 pm he was born. After that I had a good supper. It was relatively easy, and I enjoyed his birth.

Marcus Daemyn Aidan, born Tuesday, November 4th, 2008. He was three days late, and I didn't know his gender, but at least I knew I was pregnant with him. He was born at 8 pounds 4 ounces. Needless to say, my life has been changed again. I'm happy to be a mommy for the second time.

I was schedule the night before for an induction. Needless to say, I went in to labour on my own that morning at 4 in the morning. An hour later I finally rolled over to my husband and said "Eli, I'm in labour." His response: "Are you sure?" By 6:30 am we were at the hospital, an hour early. The only reason I didn't wait it out was the fact that I was told not to labour long at home, and I was at an hour and 45 minutes by the time we actually got out the door. Walking took forever, but hey, you got to pause for those contractions. I spent the majority of the time in good spirits, with the exception of being poke with a needles for the IV twice, and the fact the IV hurt because of the swelling from the needle. My arm was bruised for awhile afterwards. Then being poked again after that so they could take blood. I hate metal allergies, particularly when they disagree with you when you're see the doctor about the allergy.

Anyway, I was told I was very cheerful for being in labour, and the next hitch was when they finally broke my water. I've decided I'd prefer induction over natural labour any time. I asked for something to help manage the pain, and ended up literally passing out in between contractions because the medication made me sleepy. Anyway, about 50 minutes later, Marcus was born at 1:04 pm. I had turkey sandwiches to eat, not as good as salsbury steak with gravy. Everyone was tired, including Eli and Heather (a friend who came for the birth.)

I have to say, so far I prefer Lucas' birth over Marcus', even if pushing with Marcus was shorter. I think I'm just going to avoid any pain medication from now on. What they gave me with Lucas' birth didn't work, and what they gave me with Marcus' made me pass out (oh and let's not forget I need 100% oxygen with Marcus to focus to push. After that Nitro Oxide so my OB/GYN could stitch me up.)
